16Settings and personal choices

Every choice you can make in the app, where to find it, and what it remembers.

16.1Where your choices live

There is no single settings screen. Each choice sits next to the thing it changes.

PlaceHow to get thereWhat you set there
Layers tabTap Menu, then LayersWhat shows on the map, voice, alerts, arrow size, base map and camp filters
Route tabTap Menu, then RouteYour trip date, the vehicle for one route, the kind of roads, and Home Base
Weather tabTap Menu, then WeatherRain radar and wind
Offline tabTap Menu, then OfflineMap source
Account panelTap Menu, then Account at the bottomYour usual vehicle, password and subscription
Map buttonsOn the map itselfVehicle, Radar, Topo or Sat, 2D or 3D, and Height
Navigation barAlong the bottom while you navigateVoice on or off, 2D or 3D, topo or satellite

The app remembers your choices on the phone you made them on. Each phone and computer keeps its own.

A few things go with your account to every device: Saved Routes, Saved Spots and Home Base.

CautionClearing your browser's data wipes the choices kept on that phone, and your offline maps too.

16.2Units

The app uses kilometres, km/h, metres, tonnes and degrees Celsius. There is no switch to change them.

16.3Your vehicle

Your vehicle decides the roads the app plans. It also decides which low bridges it warns about. And it decides which camps you can reach.

  1. Tap Vehicle on the map.
  2. Tap the vehicle you travel in.

You can also set it in the Account panel, under My usual rig. There you can tick Towing a caravan or trailer, and set its height.

To use another vehicle for one trip only, pick it under Vehicle for this route in the Route tab. This isn't remembered. Tap Use my usual rig to go back.

NoteYour usual vehicle is kept with your account, so it comes back on a new phone.

Step by step, with pictures: Keep your rig clear of low bridges · Gentler roads when you're towing

16.4Arrow size and route line

Make your position arrow and the line you follow easier to see.

  1. Open Menu, then Layers.
  2. Scroll to Arrow and route line.
  3. Under Arrow size, pick Standard, Large or Extra large.
  4. Under Route line, pick Standard, Thick or Extra thick.

The arrow size works on the map and in navigation. The route line size is for the green line in navigation.

16.5Base map, 3D and Height

The base map is the picture under everything else. Topo is a drawn map with roads, hills and place names. Satellite is photos taken from space.

  • Tap the Topo button at the bottom left of the map to switch to Satellite. It then reads Sat. Tap it again to go back.
  • Or open Menu, then Layers. Under Base Map, tap Topo or Satellite.
  • The app remembers which one you used last.

3D shows the hills standing up, so you can see the shape of the land. Tap 2D at the bottom left to switch to 3D. The app always opens flat, in 2D.

In 3D, a Height slider shows above those buttons. Slide it to make the hills taller or flatter, from 1x to 3x. 1x is their true height. It starts at 1.3x, and the app remembers where you leave it.

NoteNavigation has its own hill height. The Height slider changes the main map only.

Under Layers, 3D Camera has four switches: Invert up / down, Invert left / right, Invert pan (two-finger scroll) and Invert zoom (pinch). They flip which way the 3D view moves. All are off to start.

Step by step, with pictures: Plan and drive with 3D maps

16.6Voice

  1. Open Menu, then Layers.
  2. Scroll to Voice Guidance.
  3. Turn Speak turn directions on or off. It starts on.
  4. Pick a voice from the Voice list.
  5. Tap Test to hear it.

The voices are the ones built into your phone, so they work with no signal. Which ones you get depends on your phone.

In navigation, the VOICE button in the bottom bar does the same as the switch. Tap it and it reads MUTED.

16.7Speed Limit Alert and other alerts

16.8Camp filters

Show only the campsites that have what you need. Under Layers, scroll to Filter Campsites. Tap one or more: Toilets, Water, Showers, Power, Kitchen, Free Only, Dogs OK.

The app remembers your filters. Tap a filter again to turn it off.

NoteAdding a place can turn your filters off, so the app can show you a place nearby. Turn them back on afterwards.

16.9Route choices

These sit in the Route tab, above Plan Route. The app remembers them for your next route.

ChoiceWhat it does
Leaving onYour trip date. Closed roads are checked for this day. It goes back to today when the day passes, or when you tap Clear.
Prefer Unsealed RoadsLeans the route toward unsealed roads.
Prefer Twisty RoadsLeans toward winding roads.
Avoid HighwaysKeeps off the main highways where it can.
Avoid Toll RoadsKeeps off roads you pay to use.

Easiest roads, even if much furtherShows with the same vehicles. It avoids steep roads, even if the trip is a lot longer. Off to start.

With a caravan, a motorhome or a trailer, two choices hide. They are Prefer Twisty Roads and Avoid Highways.

NotePlan with AI and opening a saved route can change these switches. Check them before you plan your next route.

Home Base is lower in the Route tab. Type your home address and tap Save Home. The Home button on the dash then takes you there.

Step by step, with pictures: Choose the kind of road you want

16.10Rain radar and wind

Radar shows where rain is falling now. Open Menu, then Weather. Rain Radar (live) is on to start. The Radar button on the map turns it on and off too.

Wind Speed shows the wind instead. Only one of the two shows at a time.

The Forecast Time slider moves the weather ahead, up to 7 days. It goes back to now each time you open the app.

Step by step, with pictures: See the weather on your trip

16.11Map source

Map source decides whether the app uses the map over the signal or the map kept on your phone. Open Menu, then Offline. It sits at the top.

ChoiceWhat it does
AutoUses the map over the signal. Switches to your downloaded map by itself when nothing gets through. This is the start setting.
Offline onlyAlways uses your downloaded map, even with signal.
Online onlyNever uses the downloaded map. On weak signal the map may be slow or blank.

The line under it says which map it is using right now. One choice covers the map and navigation.

Step by step, with pictures: Keep the map with no signal

16.12In navigation

The bar at the bottom of navigation has four buttons. Each shows the state you are in now. Tap it for the other.

ButtonWhat it doesRemembered

The + and minus buttons zoom the map. The app then leaves the zoom to you. Press and hold either one to hand the zoom back to the app.

16.13Layers and other things it remembers

Every switch in the Layers tab is remembered. If you turn on Fuel Stations today, they're there tomorrow.

  • In a Plan with AI trip, tap None, I have my own to hide places to stay. Tap Show them to bring them back. This is remembered.
  • On a computer, the Menu can fold away to the side with the arrows at its top. This is remembered.
  • A card asks you to keep Motocamp on your phone. It comes back each time until the icon is on your home screen.

There is no switch for the usage counting. See Your privacy in the account chapter.
