14Adding to the map
Put a missing place on the map, check places other campers added, and share what you found.
14.1What you can add
Campers who use Motocamp help keep the map right. You can add a place that is missing. You can say if a place is still there.
On a campsite card you can also leave a review, a dog rule and how the place looks today. Everyone sees what you share, so the next person knows what to expect.
- Add a missing place: press and hold the map.
- Tell us something on the map is wrong: press and hold the map.
- Leave a review, a dog rule or today's conditions: tap a campsite to open its card.
- Tell us about the app itself: Report a problem, at the foot of the Menu.
14.2Something missing here? Add it yourself
Know a camp, a water tap or a dump point that isn't on the map? You can put it there yourself. It shows for everyone within seconds.
- Zoom in close on the spot, so your pin lands in the right place.
- Press and hold that spot with one finger for about half a second. On a computer, right-click.
- A menu opens. Tap Something missing here? Add it yourself.
- If a place like it is close by, the app shows it first. See the next part.
- Fill in the form called Add a place.
- Tap Add it.
The pin goes where you pressed. You can't move it inside the form. If it's in the wrong spot, tap Cancel and press again in the right place.
| Part of the form | What to put |
|---|---|
| Name | What people call it. You must give a name. Use 2 to 80 letters. |
| Kind | Tap one: Free camp, Caravan park, Bush camp, Dump point, Drinking water, Shower, Rest area. Free camp is picked to start with. |
| Cost | Pick Free, Costs money or Not sure. It starts on Not sure. |
| Longest rig that fits (m) | The longest vehicle that fits, in metres. You can leave it empty. It takes 1.9 to 13.7. |
| What's there | Tick what you saw: Toilet, Drinking water, Shower, Fire ring, Picnic table, Rubbish bin, Dump point, Power, Phone signal, Shade, Swimming. |
| Anything worth knowing | A short note, such as the ground, the shade or how rough the road in is. You can leave it empty. Up to 400 letters. |
| Kind | What it means |
|---|---|
| Free camp | A place to stay the night at no cost. |
| Caravan park | A paid park with sites for caravans, motorhomes and tents. |
| Bush camp | A simple camp off the beaten track, often with nothing there. |
When you tap Add it, the form closes and the pin appears. No message comes up. That's how you know it worked.
No signal? The app keeps your place on the phone and sends it when you're back in range. It can keep up to 20 this way.
You keep ownership of what you add. By adding it, you let Motocamp show it and change it in the app, for good and everywhere. The note under the form says so.

14.3This might already be here
Before the form opens, the app looks for a camp within 300 metres of where you pressed. If it finds one, it shows it first under This might already be here.
It tells you the place's name and how far it is from your pin. It may also say how many more are nearby.
To show you the place, the app turns on its layer. It also turns off every camp filter you had on, such as Dogs OK. Turn them back on under Filter Campsites when you're done.
| Button | Tap it when |
|---|---|
| That's it | The place shown is the one you meant. Nothing new is added. |
| Right place, wrong spot | It's the same place, but its pin sits a little off. |
| Mine's different | Your place is a different one. The form opens. |
14.4How much you can add in a day
These limits keep the map tidy. A day here means the last 24 hours, not since midnight.
| What | Limit |
|---|---|
| New places | 5 in 24 hours for each account. |
| Places on the same spot | Not a second one within 100 metres of a place you added in the last 24 hours. |
| Everything you share | 20 in 24 hours. This counts places, reviews, dog rules, conditions and answers about places. |
| Conditions for one campsite | 3 in 24 hours. |
| Reports to us | 10 in 24 hours, and 3 about the same place. |
When you reach a limit, the form says so in red. Try again the next day.
14.5Places other campers added
Places campers added show as orange dots with a white ring. They're always on. There's no switch to hide them.
| How the dot looks | What it means |
|---|---|
| Faded orange | Nobody has confirmed it yet. Treat it as a tip, not a fact. |
| Solid orange | Enough campers say it's there. |
| Dark grey | Campers disagree about it. Treat it as unconfirmed. |
| Orange bubble with a number | Several places close together. Zoom in to see each one. |
Tap a dot to open its card. Under Added by a camper, it says who added it and how sure campers are.
- Tap the orange dot.
- Under Added by a camper, tap I've been, it's here, It's gone or Wrong spot.
You get one answer for each place. If you answer again, your new answer takes the place of the old one.
An answer from someone standing at the place counts double. The app knows this from your phone's position. Two campers on the spot can confirm a place. So can four checking from home.
One It's gone, with nobody saying it's there, turns the dot dark grey. Older answers count for less, so a place that shuts doesn't stay confirmed for ever.
For Wrong spot, turn your location on and stand at the real place. A person then looks at it. The dot never moves by itself.
14.6Something's wrong here
Seen a road that's missing, shut or wrong on the map? Tell us from that spot. Only the Motocamp team sees these reports.
- Press and hold the spot on the map. On a computer, right-click.
- Tap Something's wrong here.
- Under What's wrong here?, tap the one that fits.
- Add a few words if they help us find it.
- Tap Send.
The choices are:
- Road is missing
- Surface is wrong
- Road is closed
- Height or weight limit is wrong
- Name is wrong
- Not suitable for caravans or long vehicles
- Something else
A place card has its own link at the bottom: Report a problem with this place. It asks What's wrong with this place? The choices are:
- Wrong name
- Pin is in the wrong place
- Fee is wrong
- Facilities are wrong
- Dog rule is wrong
- Doesn't exist any more
- Same place shown twice
- Something else
When a route is on the map, the Route Summary has a button for telling us about that route. It sends the route with your words, so we can see what you saw.
14.7Report a problem
Use this to tell us about the app itself, like payment, signing in, or the app freezing.
- Open the Menu.
- Scroll to the very bottom and tap Report a problem.
- Tap the topic that fits.
- Tell us what you were doing when it happened.
- Tap Send.
The topics are Payment or subscription, Can't sign in, Something else, and one for when the app stops or freezes. If you pick Something else, add a few words.
The app adds a few facts for us, such as your phone type, the app version and your vehicle. Route reports also carry the route.
You'll see: Thanks. We read every one of these. Other campers never see it. With no signal, it's kept and sent when you're back in range.
14.8Reviews
Campsite cards have a part called Reviews from campers. You give 1 to 5 stars and can add a few words.
- Tap a campsite to open its card.
- Under Reviews from campers, tap a star. One star is poor and five is great.
- In the box, write what the next camper should know. You can skip this.
- Tap Post review.
You get one review for each campsite. Tap Change to update it. Tap the bin beside it to remove it.
With fewer than three reviews, the card shows the reviews but no overall score. From three on, it shows the average out of 5.
Think a review is unfair? Tap the flag beside it. It is hidden at once until a person looks at it.
14.9Dog rules from campers
Many campsites don't say if dogs are welcome. Campers fill the gap here.
- Tap a campsite to open its card.
- Under Dog rules from campers, tap Dogs allowed, On leash only or No dogs.
- Under How do you know?, tap how you know. You can skip this.
- Add a note if it helps. Then tap Post report.
How you know can be:
- Saw a sign
- Staff told me
- Stayed with a dog
- Saw dogs there
- Other
A sign counts most. Then staying there with a dog, then staff, then seeing dogs. Two campers who saw a sign are enough to agree.
When campers agree, the dog line near the top of the card shows their answer. Under it, it says it's not an official rule. An official rule always comes first.
The Dogs OK filter under Filter Campsites uses the official rule. Where there is none, it uses what campers agree on.

14.10Current conditions from campers
Tell the next camper what you found today: open, shut, full or flooded.
- Tap a campsite to open its card.
- Under Current conditions from campers, tap Report current conditions.
- Under What did you find?, tap the one that fits.
- Add a few words if they help. Then tap Post report.
The choices are:
- Open & fine
- Closed / locked
- Full
- Access difficult
- Flooded
- Facilities out
- Fees changed
- No longer exists
- Something else, which needs a few words
If you pick No longer exists or Fees changed, we check our own map too.
The card shows the five newest reports from the last 120 days. It counts them, such as 2 say closed / locked. Older reports fold under History.
14.11What a person checks first
Most of what you share shows straight away. Your words go through a quick check first.
| What you share | When others see it |
|---|---|
| Stars with no words | Straight away. |
| A dog rule or condition with no note | Straight away. |
| I've been, it's here, It's gone, Wrong spot | Straight away. |
| Review words, notes, a new place's name and note | Straight away if they pass the check. If not, a person reads them first. |
| Anything with a link in it | Never. The app asks you to use words instead. |
The check holds back words that look like an advert, a phone number or email address, a scam, or abuse. It also holds text in capitals or repeated over and over. Mild swearing gets through.
While a review or note waits, you still see it. It says it's being checked and that only you can see it.
Reports you send us, with Something's wrong here or Report a problem, are private. Nobody else sees them.
